Aliyu Haidar Ibrahim Rinji was born on November 21, 1996, in Rinji, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, where he spent his formative years. His father was the late Dr. Ibrahim Sulaiman Galadima, who served as the representative of the Movement's members in Rinji, and his mother is Malama Baraka.
After completing his primary and secondary education, Aliyu Haidar attended the College of Health Technology in Ningi, Bauchi State, where he studied Lab Technics. He later deferred his studies there after gaining admission to Imam Jawad University in Iran, where he was a student at the time of his martyrdom. A brilliant scholar, he consistently held the first position in his class in Mashhad, Iran. He also demonstrated deep devotion to the Quran, having memorized one-third of the Holy Book.
Shaheed Aliyu Haidar was known for his unwavering commitment to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. He regarded Shaheed Ahmad Zakzaky as his role model and actively contributed to the Youth Forum (Dandalin Matasa) and Jaishu Shaheed Ahmad Zakzaky (JASAZ), a dedicated youth wing of the Movement.
His profound desire for martyrdom was a defining aspect of his character; he often expressed that he was created to defend Malam (Sheikh Zakzaky). Despite his young age, he possessed a remarkable ability to engage with and convince elders. He was celebrated for his bravery, fearlessness, modesty, piety, neatness, dedication to night prayers, and Quran recitation.
Aliyu Haidar Ibrahim Rinji attained martyrdom on July 23, 2019, in Abuja. He was shot by Nigerian police under the Buhari administration during a peaceful protest on July 22, 2019, demanding the release of Sheikh Zakzaky and access to medical care for him. Eyewitnesses reported that he was at the forefront of the demonstration at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja. He was shot twice, in the abdomen and chest, while kneeling to pick up tear gas canisters to return them towards the police amidst thick smoke.
In his will, Aliyu Haidar expressed gratitude to Allah (SWT) and his parents. He urged his friends, fellow members of the Movement, and the wider community to remain steadfast under the leadership of Sayeed Zakzaky, emphasizing it as their path to salvation in this world and the hereafter. He reaffirmed his loyalty (Wilayah) to Allah and paid tribute to his role model, Shaheed Commander Ahmad, in a farewell video.
His mother, Malama Baraka, testified to his fearlessness, greeting his body with the words:
"You are fearless, you are not a hypocrite..."
His late father, Dr. Ibrahim Sulaiman, remembered his son's consistent devotion:
"He would take on a regular devotion for himself and stick to it..."
At the time of his martyrdom, Aliyu Haidar Ibrahim Rinji was 22 years old, though the original account stated he was 21.
He is survived by his mother, an older brother, and more than ten younger siblings. His father passed away two years after his martyrdom.
