Aliyu Ridha Yahaya was born on 13 November 1999 (corresponding to 7 Rajab 1422 AH) in Hunkuyi, located in the Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State. He was the son of Malam Yahaya Sabi'u and Malama Hafsat Garba. From an early age, he showed a profound love for learning, seeking both religious education and Western schooling through his secondary school years. Owing to the prevailing economic hardships in the country, he paused further formal schooling after secondary school and worked as a vegetable vendor in Mararaba, on the outskirts of Abuja, working diligently to support his family.
Aliyu was deeply devoted to his faith and the activities of the Islamic Movement. He made every effort never to miss educational programs and held a particular steadfastness toward Azadari commemorations. Prior to his martyrdom, he actively served in Jaishi Shaheed Ahmad Zakzaky (H), dedicating his youthful energy to community service and religious gatherings.
Known for his gentle disposition, Aliyu brought immense warmth to his family and community:
He prioritized the happiness and welfare of his parents and younger siblings, striving to ease their burdens.
He was widely regarded for his generosity, fraternal kindness, and noble manners toward everyone he encountered.
His father testified warmly to his obedience, upright conduct, and steadfast commitment to religious duties.
On 12 December 2014, Aliyu took part in the peaceful International Quds Day procession in Abuja, organized in solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. During the procession, security forces opened fire on the demonstrators. Aliyu sustained five gunshot wounds across his arms, legs, thigh, and heel. Members of the community quickly moved him to receive emergency care, but after severe blood loss, he attained martyrdom.
"Regularly visit Darurrahma, and take diligent care of our younger siblings, both in their education and in their steadfastness in the way of Allah."
Aliyu is survived by his parents and siblings. His younger brother fondly recalled his enduring counsel, urging the family to maintain regular visits to the martyrs at Darurrahma and to watch over the younger generation's upbringing, studies, and spiritual devotion.
