Shamsuddeen Abdulrahman was born on January 11, 2000 (7th of Ramadan) in Zaryar Dila, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, Kano State. He later resided in Gwada Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State. His parents were Abdul Rahman Yunus and Haulat Hassan.
Shamsuddeen pursued both secular and religious education. He attended Dawakin Tofa Primary School and Dawakin Tofa Secondary School. In his religious studies, he completed the memorization of the Holy Quran and delved into the books of Ahlul Bait (AS). To support himself, he engaged in various halal occupations, with his primary trade being the sale of touchlights and batteries until his martyrdom.
Shaheed Shamsuddeen was known for his unwavering commitment to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. He was not deterred by challenges or small numbers, always standing firm, especially during the "Abuja Struggle." He purposefully earned money to fund his participation in movement activities, including travel to processions, making donations, and other Islamic endeavors. He maintained a dedicated savings fund to ensure he was always prepared for any movement activity. Despite the distances and short notices, he was known to attend countless processions.
On September 28, 2021 (20th of Safar), Shaheed Shamsuddeen was martyred in Abuja during the Arba'een procession. Soldiers under the Buhari administration opened fire on the followers of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H). During the incident, he was among those courageously chanting "Allahu Akbar," "Ya Hussain... Ya Aba Abdullah...", and defending himself by throwing stones, demonstrating his refusal to surrender.
When some brothers began to retreat, one urged him to leave. Shamsuddeen famously replied, "I'm not going anywhere. What about the other brothers?" He often reminded his companions, "They cannot do to us what Allah has not willed for us." He also expressed his bewilderment at those who would leave during an incident, questioning what one would say if pursued and shot after retreating. As he turned to pick up a stone to continue his defense against the enemies of Aba Abdullah Al-Hussein, he was shot in the neck. The bullet tragically exited through his face, tearing the side of his mouth. This incident occurred in Gwarinfa.
Shamsuddeen was a young, unmarried man. He had already lost his mother before his martyrdom, and his father, Malam Abdul Rahman, passed away just five months prior. He was the eldest of three children from his mother, survived by his younger brother Khabeer and younger sister Shamsiyya. He was an orphan and the eldest sibling, leaving behind only Khabeer and Shamsiyya as his direct blood relatives. Shaheed Shamsuddeen was remembered for his exceptional character and noble qualities.
